smartGAS: Gas sensor for new refrigerant

Refrigerants have to become more environmentally friendly, as provided by the current F-Gas regulation. R445A is a new compliant refrigerant for this. In order to be able to detect it when a leak occurs, smartGAS has now adapted its sensors from its proven BasicEVO series.

The Global Warming Potential (GWP) is the decisive indicator that describes the environmental compatibility of refrigerants. The bans on the use of refrigerants that are now coming into force only permit refrigerants with a GWP of less than 150. In some cases, previous substances achieve almost ten times this value.

With a GWP of 146, the new R445A not only achieves a value that complies with the directive. It also receives first-class ratings in terms of energy efficiency and low flammability. R445A is used in refrigerators, condensing units and monobloc systems for cold rooms and freezers.

However, should a leak occur, this new refrigerant has also to be detected. To accomplish this, smartGAS has now enhanced its BASICEVO range and calibrated it to the specifics of R445A.
BASICEVO are non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors for ambient air monitoring and leak detection in small concentration ranges. They are characterized by low detection limits, a wide temperature range, fast response time and low maintenance costs - advantages that now also come into play in the detection of R445A.
