C2H4 detection in the petrochemical industry
Ethylene is also very important in the chemical industry, where it is processed in intermediate stages to produce polyethylene, for example, which is used to manufacture plastic bottles. Via the intermediate product vinyl chloride it is also used in the production of PVC plastic for floors, for example.
Another product of ethylene is ethylene glycol: This alcohol serves as a starting material for polyester, which is used for the production of textile fibres. In these chemical processes for the manufacture of plastic or synthetic fibres, precise dosing of ethylene is also very important. The C2H4 sensors from smartGAS are ideal for these processes, since they detect even minuscule ethylene concentrations of ≤ 20 ppm with a linearity error of ≤ ± 30 ppm and repeatability error of ≤ ± 20 ppm.
