The use of refrigeration plants and warehouses is widespread in the food processing industry. Refrigeration is important not only during the processing of food but also for its storage and transport. Foodstuffs, such as fruit and vegetables, require continuous chilling by air conditioning and refrigeration plants.

The refrigerants used are often collectively referred to as “Freon”. In addition to refrigerant R22, which is subject to a partial ban, refrigerant R134a, refrigerant R404a, refrigerant R 123, refrigerant R 125 are used. In many cases refrigerants are combustible and extremely injurious to the environment, contributing in part to the greenhouse effect. As a result, increasing importance is placed on leak detection in the refrigeration units such as cold storage warehousing, refrigerated transport units and refrigeration plants etc., based on a refrigerant detector system. Compliance with F-Gas Regulation requires checks for system tightness, and the installation of refrigerant detectors for refrigerant gases.
